Polkit: Who are they?

Perhaps you have seen Polkit Cycling Group on a Saturday or Sunday morning rolling along Jetti, Macapagal Ave., Pasay City. They were the cyclists packed pedalling easy and chatting with each other at SM Mall of Asia Grounds. We could also see them having coffee along Baywalk in Roxas Blvd., Manila. The group was formed some dates last October 2010.

Before Polkit was formed and named, these cyclists from Manila and Makati were biking together during late 70′s. During their younger years, Manila to Baguio was just a piece of cake, not to mentioned their memorable ride during Edsa Revolution, also known as People Power 1.

I can’t compare enough their passion in bicycle and investments in their friendship through the years. These photos will humbly prove what and who they are.

When I asked one of the members about the thrust of Polkit, he replied “hindi natatapos ang samahan sa pagpadyak.” Like common friends, they share their life’s joys and hardship, dealing beyond their differences but remained friends.

Technology may changed, old-school developed photos to digital photos, bicycle frame maybe folding or upright, cyclist may have its classification but for me, these cyclists were truly respected and admired of.

Hope the legacy of Polkit lives forever in cycling community. Long live Polkits!

Dance and Ride at Livestrong Day

“I wish we had Zumba more”, those were the exact words I heard from Tina Zamora of Loop Bikers and Carol Tiamzon of Polkit as we paced almost a thousand cyclists, who joined the Livestrong Circulo Verde Twilight Ride in Quezon City last May 20.

Yes you heard it right! I danced. Zumba is a latin-inspired dance fitness brought to the Philippines. Actually, I had thoughts of not joining the stretching few minutes before the ride, because dancing is not my cup of tea but when I saw the guys wiggled and stomped their feet… Eric Bergara, Tessa Prieto, Joey Santos (VP for Ortigas Real Estate Properties), staff of Circulo Verde and the music, I couldn’t help myself :) Thanks Gold’s Gym.

It was drizzled throughout our 21 Kms twilight ride from Circulo Verde going to Ortigas properties. It was 6:00pm already when we got back at Circulo Verde open field and barbeques, Nachos, San Miguel Beers and more foodies greeted us.

It was a fun reunion for the supporters and volunteers of Livestrong Team Philippines.  Met friends from AWAT Bikers, Biker Friends, Loop Bikers, Bike Campers, Polkit, BikeBros PH, Philmofo and more.

Hope to see more supporters in October for Livestrong Day 2012.

Just one of the few

Hi guys, I would like to meet my new folding bike, Peerless Lite, which I bought few days ago from a good friend of mine. As for the riding style, I can’t compare enough the difference between a mountain bike and a folding bike because they are both fun and ease of use.

My folding bike helped me appreciate the convenience of urban biking more and change my cycling fashion. No more cycling apparel, no more cycling shorts, no to clipless shoes just be yourself. Feel free to express yourself and wear anything with your bike.
