One race that I don’t want to miss

Dirt Weekend happened once a year in Nuvali where passionate mountain bikers gathered together not only to compete but to reunite friendship as well. This year, Dirt Weekend+ showcased dirt bike events that includes Enduro, 24 Hours Race, Four Cross, Cross Country, Duathlon and more. Events were exciting as the previous years.

It made me recall the previous races I joined at Dirt Weekend, in 2009, I raced 30km cross country race while in 2010 and 2011 I participated in 24 hour racing, completed 18 laps covering 5.4 kms each lap. This year, it was a different experience for me as I was given a chance to be one of the media of Dirt Weekend+. It was a nice experience because I was able to see all events and categories. Met new and old folks who joined the race.

Dance and Ride at Livestrong Day

“I wish we had Zumba more”, those were the exact words I heard from Tina Zamora of Loop Bikers and Carol Tiamzon of Polkit as we paced almost a thousand cyclists, who joined the Livestrong Circulo Verde Twilight Ride in Quezon City last May 20.

Yes you heard it right! I danced. Zumba is a latin-inspired dance fitness brought to the Philippines. Actually, I had thoughts of not joining the stretching few minutes before the ride, because dancing is not my cup of tea but when I saw the guys wiggled and stomped their feet… Eric Bergara, Tessa Prieto, Joey Santos (VP for Ortigas Real Estate Properties), staff of Circulo Verde and the music, I couldn’t help myself 🙂 Thanks Gold’s Gym.

It was drizzled throughout our 21 Kms twilight ride from Circulo Verde going to Ortigas properties. It was 6:00pm already when we got back at Circulo Verde open field and barbeques, Nachos, San Miguel Beers and more foodies greeted us.

Tiendesitas with Eric, Tessa, Tina, Carol

It was a fun reunion for the supporters and volunteers of Livestrong Team Philippines.  Met friends from AWAT Bikers, Biker Friends, Loop Bikers, Bike Campers, Polkit, BikeBros PH, Philmofo and more.

Hope to see more supporters in October for Livestrong Day 2012.

Antipolo, Rizal

Last February this year, Philmofo cyclist rode the trails of Sta. Inez, Tanay, Rizal and held a big gift giving ride for the Aetas together with Ms. Kara David with her Project Malasakit. Around 55 Dumagat families were benefited in this project.

On September 11, in celebration of Philmofo’s 3rd anniversary with another social conscious project, BISAKLATBisikleta at Aklat, a book donation and story-telling activity for 100 pre-school aged children in Philmofo’s chosen community. The primary objective of this project for the children is to develop love of reading, to give them exposure to books that are written in the language they understand thus, they become more driven to learn. Adarna Books headed by Ms. Ani Almario had donated number of their storybooks to be brought on the first maiden ride.

Me and the organizers are looking forward to have this project done regularly with the help of our fellow bikers, runners, teams and institutions. We hope we can make it possible.

Thumbs Up for Globe

It was only few kilometers more for me to end The Globe Cordillera Challenge when a good friend of mine checked my bike components while we stopped in one of the pit stops. He said that my rear brake pads gave up. My brake fades caused by overheating which, means the brake caliper can no longer squeeze or grip the brake rotor while spinning. It would be dangerous to downhill when of the brakes are not in good condition.

Marshal confirmed it too, that there’s still downhill before the finish line.  We waited for few minutes for SAG to arrived to pick me up and my bike.  I felt sorry that I was not able to crossed the finish line but great because I was able to biked one of the beautiful mountains in the Philippines.

Start at Burnham Park, Baguio City

The experience to be part of this ride-for-a-cause project by Globe Telecom as Cordillera Conservation Trust, the primary beneficiary is truly heart warming.

Philmofo Ladies

The event was participated by some mountain bikers friends from Philmofo, Loop Bikers, Makati Mountain Vikings, Holcim MTB, Pangasinan MTB, Inmalog MTB, Baguio MTB and more.

Some climbs are rideable

but some are not

I hope in the small amount we donated, we could help rebuild the mountains of Cordillera. Congratulations to Globe Telecoms and Cordillera Conservation Trust. Salute to all Marshals from Baguio Mountain Bikers Group who swept us all. We enjoyed the challenge and hoping to see those same faces next year.

Bodivance Works

I was one of the 200+ mountain bikers who joined the newbie ride of Philmofo’s Maarat Rampage held last Sunday, May 1 at Shotgun Trail. To give you a brief profile of the trail, Shotgun Trail is one of the famous trails in San Mateo given its perfect view of Metro Manila and Sierra Madre Mountains. And, one of the steepest trails in North near Manila.

I hydrate, stretch and share few sachets of Bodivance to some mountain bikers.

 Jaime Marcelo

John Casey Santos

We applied Bodivance together before hitting Shotgun Trail to see if it works 🙂

“BODIVANCE is an all-natural formulation that creates a thermogenic effect on the applied areas. This increases the circulation to exercising muscles, resulting in a more effective workout. It also accelerates warm up and recovery time, making exercise easier while reducing the risk of aches, cramps and muscle pulls”

I don’t have some advanced bike computers like Garmin Edge 500 and Polar CS600x to check the exact elevation, however, the trail could be describe approximately 45 degrees elevation, paved road is sharp and steep.

felt a slight heat on my legs at the middle of the ride.

I finished the whole stretched of the ride without getting leg cramps. After Shotgun Trail, we biked “The Wall” where our free soup is waiting 😉 at Biker’s Cafe.

It works for me and it will work for you too. Please check Bodivance website and Facebook Fan Page too for more details.

Thanks to Fernando Martirez III and Mark Mendoza for the photos.  More pictures here

My Cranks’ Skin

We had a short vacation in Subic which gave me an opportunity to purchase this hard to find Crankskin. I tried to check if this is available in LBS within Metro Manila, but I didn’t find any.

Crankskin is designed for protecting cranks’ arm from shoe scratches. The skin is adhesive and its easy to put the skin in a crank. Crankskin got different skin colors like blue, pink, green but I preferred the clear skin. I got it for Php250.00 a pair.

This is how I did to put the Crankskin in my crank arm. First, I wiped the crank arm using clean cloth with small amount of alcohol.

Then, get one skin and applied to pedal hole and smoothed it out

Then, the other one. Love it!

You can have your Crankskin by ordering from Guz Dela Rosa also known as Zhengki of Philmofo or can reach his mobile number 0917.8687721
